History of Bangla Sahib
Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is situated in the heart of New Delhi. It has an imposing façade which has a stunning golden dome and tall flagpole.
Gurdwara Bangla Sahib was originally a bungalow belonging to Raja Jai Singh, Amber in Jaipur, an Indian ruler in the seventeenth century in the court of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan resided here as a guest during his stay in Delhi. The Guru spent most of his time in serving the humble, the sick and the restitutes for cholera and smallpox were spreading in an epidemic form. He distributed medicines, food and clothes to the needy.
He also directed Diwan Dargah Mal to spend all the daily offerings made by the people to the Guru for the poor. The Guru won more admirers. Soon stories about his healing powers spread throughout the city. The water is now revered as having healing properties and is taken by Sikhs throughout the world back to their homes.
The Gurdwara is now a place of pilgrimage for both Sikhs and Hindus. The sikh festivals are celebrated are celebrated with tremendous gaiety and enthusiasm There is recitation of Gurbani and Guru Granth Sahib in the Gurudwara.
